1). Mark Dykstra, a teacher at East Leonard, is looking for a student volunteers to help with various projects. If you are interested, please contact him at 819-4925.
2). Big Brothers/Big Sisters are in need of high school student volunteers to make phone calls to individuals who received their Bowl for Kids Sake brochure promoting the event. Volunteeers are provided all information needed to make these calls, including a script. These calls are not difficult and make a tremendous difference with increasing participation in the event. Volunteers call from the Big Brothers/Big Sisters office, located at 825 Leonard St., NE (between College and Diamond Streets. across from Vitales). Calling with occur from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on the following dates: Tuesday, January 22, Wednesday, January 23, Thursday, January 24 and Monday, January 28th. They will provide pizza and pop around 7:00 p.m. each night. If your student is interested, please call Paul Miller as soon as possible at 774-4300 ext. 298 or email him at pmiller@dablodgett.org.
3). The Grandville Avenue Academy for the Arts, located at 644 Grandville Ave.,SW, is in need of assistant volunteers in their after school program, Monday through Thursday, 3:45 - 6:00 p.m. Help is needed with the front desk with attendance and after school snacks, assist teachers in art, clay and music classes and chaperone students from a neighboring school to the Arts Academy. Saturday assistants are needed on the 1st Saturday of the month, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and assist in impletation of free art activities offered at the Arts Academy.
Help is also needed at the Grandville Ave. Library located at 1260 Grandville Ave., SW on Monday through Thursday, 2-6 pm and Friday, 2 - 5pm. Help is needed with homework, assist in storytimes and read books to children.
Volunteers forms are required and are available at the City Middle-High Main Office from Mrs. Miller. Any questions should be directed to Amy Brower, Program Director, at 742-0692.
4). The American Red Cross need students who are leaders who want an opportunity to stand out, working as service project coordinators and volunteers. Student pick ideas for service project and utilitize an already strong, unique existing connection to the community and its needs. Students will be given a positive learning environment with Red Cross AmeriCorps members as mentors. If your student is interested, please contact Tory Roff at youthservices@ggr.redcross.org.
