The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) is one of the leading
Hispanic non profit and non partisan 501(c) (3) organizations in the
country. CHCI was established in 1978 by Congressman Edward Roybal,
Congressman E. "Kika" de la Garza and Congressman Baltasar Corrada to help
increase opportunities for Hispanics to participate in and contribute to the
American policy making process.

Since then, CHCI's mission has been to develop the next generation of
Hispanic leaders. Our vision is an educated and civically active Hispanic
community participating at the local, state and federal policy
decision making levels.

As the premier national Hispanic educational organization, CHCI seeks to
accomplish its mission by offering educational and leadership development
programs, services and activities that promote the growth of participants as
effective professionals and strong leaders. In the spirit of building
coalitions, CHCI seeks to establish partnerships with other Hispanic and
non Hispanic organizations.

Today, CHCI has developed into an organization whose programs have
successfully developed effective Hispanic leaders, both in public and
private sectors, through CHCI's Alumni Association. Through its programs,
CHCI has brought to fruition the original goal of its founding members.

CHCI firmly believes it is vitally important for Hispanics to be provided
with ongoing tools necessary to compete in today's rapidly changing business
environment ? more than ever since the Hispanic community is the fastest
growing and youngest segment of the U.S. population.

CHCI hopes to continue challenging corporate America to join in the
Institute's efforts in providing young Hispanics the opportunity to explore
new areas of educational development, both at the private and public
sectors.

ABOUT ARTWORKS
ArtWorks is an innovative job training program for youth between the ages of 14 and 21, which focuses on teaching critical work skills, fostering creativity, and promoting community partnerships. Artworks programs
address three primary problems facing teens today: 1) unemployment and lack of preparation for the workplace 2) drastic reduction of arts education in schools 3) limited opportunities for positive mentoring relationships with adults.
ARTWORKS IN SUMMER-NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS for 2008!!
In this program, youth from diverse backgrounds train with professional artists to create original works of art commissioned by a local business. In small groups of students and a lead artist, students will work

team member, gain greater exposure to the arts community in Grand Rapids, and gain a better understanding of the exchange between artists and their clients. Each program is centered around a specific artistic discipline including visual and performance art.

Women's Scholarship

The Joyce Ivy Foundation was established to provide exposure, counsel, encouragement and financial support to young women in Michigan who have the intellectual potential to attend an Ivy League or equivalent institution but are hindered by financial challenges or other concerns about traveling away to school.

For the summer of 2007, the Joyce Ivy Foundation named eleven high school sophomores and juniors from around the state of Michigan as summer scholars. The full and partial scholarships that were granted enabled these young women to attend two-to-eight week programs at Harvard, Smith, Brown and Johns Hopkins, and Columbia with several earning college credit for their studies.

For 2008, the Joyce Ivy Foundation is targeting to double the number of full and partial scholarships to be awarded for the Pre-College Summer Programs. These scholarships cover the cost of tuition, room and board, as well as related expenses such as books, fees, and travel to and from campus. The Joyce Ivy Foundation’s partner universities and colleges for this summer are Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, University of Pennsylvania, Smith, MIT, Stanford, Emory, Carleton and Yale. All Joyce Ivy applicants are now required to also apply for financial aid to the Summer Program Institution. Receivership of a Joyce Ivy Foundation scholarship is contingent upon both the student being accepted at one of our partner colleges and universities, as well as the student applying for financial aid at these schools. The Joyce Ivy Foundation application deadline for 2008 is March 17th, with decisions announced April 30th. Please encourage students to apply early, as pre-college financial aid budgets tend to be consumed relatively early in the admissions cycle.

Applications and further information are available online at www.joyceivyfoundation.org.

If you have any questions regarding the Joyce Ivy Foundation or the Summer Scholarship Program, I encourage you to contact me directly via email at eostafin@joyceivyfoundation.org or by phone at (734) 661-0229. We look forward to continue working with you!
