Get Involved at City

How can you help us build community at City High Middle?

The time we spend together is even more important than the funds we raise. We especially encourage you to volunteer with your student. There are so many ways that we can work together to make City an even better school.

Event Volunteer Opportunities

Orientation

Parent involvement is key to a strong and successful PTSA. During orientation, we recruit new members and sell City-branded merchandise to fund our work. We’d love to have your smiling face help to staff our folding table!

Fall Open House

All parents and students are invited to the welcome back dinner each September before City’s all school open house. We will need help with set-up and clean-up for the event. Food is provided by the PTSA.

Pie Sale

The October pie sale is our second biggest fundraiser of the year. We need A LOT of help to make it happen. (advertising, organizing, day of event help.) If you want to purchase pies, click here.

Recycled Art Market

This November event is loved by all in the Grand Rapids community. It features juried artists selling pieces made from recycled materials. We need parents to help organize as well as staff the event..students can also earn CAS hours on the Friday before as well as Saturday during the event.

City Lights Auction

The auction committee plans and organizes our largest fundraising event. Varying options to help include soliciting silent auction donations, finding corporate sponsorships, planning the event, organizing the items as they come in, and helping the night of the event.

Chili Cookoff

An easy night of great fun, great music, and great chili.

Spring Picnic

We welcome new families who have a new City student starting in the fall. Show them the same warm welcome that your family received.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Conferences

City holds conferences three times per year. We ask parents to bring dinner for the teachers, We need a parent to coordinate the dinner schedules and many parents to help make food.

Choir, Band, and Orchestra Parents

CBOP (Choir, Band, and Orchestra Parents) helps the music department — both inside and outside the classroom — with fundraising and other tasks. If you are interested in helping, please Indicate the group you would like to work with below (band, choir, or orchestra) and we’ll connect you.

Odyssey of the Mind

Our school is building an amazing Odyssey of the Mind program. We need parents willing to help coach and coordinate our teams.

Music Theater Committee

This committee is responsible for fundraising, planning and implementing plays and musicals at City. It’s a large event and can always use more support.

Exam Snacks

Several times a year, we provide snacks for our students as they complete their exams. This not only keeps them energized for testing, it shows them that parents, teachers, and admin are in their corner.  We need a parent, or group of parents to organize and distribute healthy snacks to our kids on these days.

Teachers’ Lounge

We need a parent, or several parents to help keep the teachers’ lounge stocked with coffee, tea, and other drinks and to keep the sink & refrigerator areas clean and tidy.

City Gear Sales

We need someone who is willing to sell City gear to parents and students at City events throughout the year.
